More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I started at Kindercare daycare center working primarily with pre-k and toddlers aged two-four. Afterwards I worked at an after school program with 4th-6th graders. At that job the staff would be responsible for planning a week of activities related to a designated theme for the month. I then moved onto a program called ACCEPT, the program specialized in children with special needs in grades 6-8. I worked with emotional needs for those students. Most recently I worked at an elementary school with children that struggled with english. Many of them were from other countries such as Haiti, Somalia, Brazil, and many more.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing arts and crafts activities with children. I find creative activities to be very fulfilling for them. Painting, coloring, making slime, those kinds of things. I also enjoy bringing the children outside and playing games such as tag and sports.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being there for the children. Being able to be someone they can rely on and trust while also setting boundaries and expectations. I think children really need to know that they have someone that they can go to if they need extra support and be able to express themselves.
My experience with special needs children...
I have limited experience with special needs kids. My experience at ACCEPT is all I have and I quickly found out that emotional needs is not something I do well in. It's a bit too much for me and I couldn't provide the support those students needed.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have never been a nanny but I can name a favorite memory from working at schools. The most recent job I had was extremely rewarding. I had one student that spoke with a very thick accent and struggled with tricky english words. She warmed up to me right away and over the course of the school year started pronouncing words perfectly. She eventually no longer needed as much support and that it was a wonderful feeling to know that I helped her that much.
