More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I grew up on the campus of a boarding school in Washington,CT where my parents are teachers. I began caring for the young children on our campus at a very early age. My first paid job at the age of 16 was being a camp counselor in the 3 to 5 year old camp program. I attended The Gunnery for high school where service to others was held in high esteem. I focused all my service work around working with children. I loved working with a little girl who was born with Down's Syndrome. I spent three summers Nannying for a family in Jamestown, RI. I carried for all the grandchildren that visited throughout the summer and at times I watched 9 children. When school is in session I work at The Coggshall Club in Middletown, RI. I work in the Yearling room that cares for children 12 to 24 months. My parents recently bought a summer home in Westerly and I am looking forward to continuing my work with children while living there in the summer months.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love craft activities, nature walks, beach time, developmentally appropriate activities, reading stories, dramatic play, playground activities, music and dance activities, games, special trips for fun summer activities like ice cream cones, seaglass and seashell collection.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I believe it is most important to remember that the children I am watching and caring for our the families greatest gifts. It is in important for me to care for them and watch over them with safety being at the forefront always. Summer days hold some of my fondest memories and I love to recreate those memories for the children I care for.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for a little girl with Down's Syndrome for the past 6 years. I also care for her two younger siblings. I did this throughout high school and when I returned home to Connecticut for holiday breaks.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have so many favorite memories but one of the best times of the day for me is sharing with the parents funny things that happen during the day while I care for their children. I love to tell them about how they learned to pump the swing for the first time or how they learned to build castle at the beach and stomp them down and laugh. I like to text a picture to them on their phone so they smile at work. The partnership I form with my families is one of my favorite parts of my summer work.
