A little bit about me

Hello! I have been a career nanny since 2004 when I started with 10-month-old twin boys. Since then, I have helped to raise over 35 children with diverse support needs, family dynamics, and socio-economic backgrounds. I have experiences with all age groups and have cared for multiple sets of multiples. I also have served large families (up to 5 children) and have nanny-shared as well (up to 8 children).

Outside of nannying, I have helped run an after-school program with South Windsor Parks and Rec and have served as the children's programming coordinator for Rocky Hill Congregational Church. In the latter position, I created activities and curriculum that were interfaith, inclusive, adaptive, and LGBTQ+ affirming.

Beyond childcare, I have many years of experience with animals. I've raised 4 litters of rescue puppies and one of rescue kittens. I have a small backyard farm with chickens and I used to have rabbits. I also have experience with horses and children around horses.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with all kinds of physical, emotional, and developmental differences. I'm most experienced with autism, ADHD, and anxiety disorders. I also have experience with cerebral palsy, tracheoesophageal fistula, pyloric stenosis that required surgery, and phenylketonuria (PKU). My time as a nanny has also included many families with premature babies, typically twins, in their newborn to toddler stages.

In addition to childcare, I have also performed adult care with an adult with Parkinson's induced dementia and a broken back, and an adult with a severely broken leg that required 3 months of round-the-clock care.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I am not one for favorites (I don't even have a favorite color), so it would be hard for me to pick a moment. That said, one of my favorite things about being a nanny is watching the child develop into their own person with their own likes and dislikes, challenges and strengths, and ways of engaging with the world.
