More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I gathered a lot of experience growing up, when my brothers were born and my mom went back to work. I was a nanny for a 2 year old boy who had a few mental disabilities, for about 8 months. I was a floater at a daycare for about 4 months, meaning I was basically a substitute, which gave me experience with ages 0-5. When I would sub in for a class, I was acting as the lead teacher in that class for anywhere from a full day to a full week. I am currently a lead 2-year old teacher at that same daycare with a class of 10 toddlers to myself.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and crafts, puzzles, building blocks, songs that get them moving, reading (whether I’m reading to them or they’re looking at it on their own), interacting with their toys, I’ve found that toddlers really enjoy when you throw a ball really high or far and they get to go chase it, outside chalk, bins with sand and toy dinosaurs for digging, water bins/sprinklers/toys…
I could go all day. When you’ve got the same kids everyday, doing the same thing everyday, you try to keep it mixed up and interesting. I’m always on Pinterest or Google trying to find new ideas for my kids. I once spent an entire lunch break with construction paper and paper towel rolls trying to make a color sorting Pom-Pom drop. There are so many different things you can do and try, but the main thing is keeping them entertained, keeping up with their short attention spans, and making sure that they’re learning something new, whatever they’re doing.
