More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've been a public educator for 11 years. I've primarily taught students age 11-18 in music settings including band, orchestra, choir, musical theatre and piano.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Board games, arts and crafts, cooking, teaching life skills/ social emotional learning, imaginative play, playing music together/ teaching music. I'd love to teach your child to play an instrument (piano/ukulele/any woodwind or brass instrument), we could also work on improving music literacy or song writing if they're interested in it. Reading/ story telling, being in nature, going to a play ground or to a public park, going to museums. As a former teacher I'm also happy to help with tutoring/ college application materials prep.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a educator, I've noticed that my students are experiencing more stress and anxiety in recent years than in my first few years of teaching. I can see the way that technology is negatively effecting their social and ability to emotionally regulate. I think one of my strengths is my ability to build positive relationships with kids, and I'm really passionate about helping kids navigate some of these challenges to help build their confidence.
My experience with special needs children...
As a teacher, I've had many students with a variety of behavioral and developmental needs. Although I have limited experience with children requiring extensive 1:1 care for cognitive disabilities, I have experience building positive and meaningful relationships with multiple students on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, dyslexia, developmental delays, depression and anxiety. Much of my teaching experience involved trauma informed care practices. I strive to engage with the kids in my care from this lens. I am confident in my ability to help kids work toward integrating whatever skills they're working on in their academic/ behavioral 504 or IEP plans at home, especially if this is something you believe might be helpful for their emotional/mental well being.
