Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love the outdoors, and during the summer I love to take the children on lots of adventures. Whether it be from a picnic at the pool, to a mini hike at the Painted Mines, I try to be outside as much as possible if the weather permits. However during the winter season, I typically read with the kids as well as do a multitude of arts and crafts and depending on age, baking is always fun too. Besides, who doesn't love a good snow day pillow fort!
My experience with special needs children...
One of the children I nannied for last, was a 3 year old boy who was non verbal. Most of the time if he needed anything, he would drag me by my hand and show me, and while that worked, it wasn't always easy still. I often times would take him to his speech therapy in the morning, as well as try to teach him the little sign language I know. Over time, with a little patience and nurturing, his speech definitely improved.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The last family I nannied for had two boys and one of the boys was just a little over 2 months when I started. I gradually got to see him grow and form his own personality. I think that childrens first 12 months of their lives are so formative, so it was amazing being able to be there for his first birthday and much after.
