I currently am a teacher for special education children in elementary school. We work on maintaining schedules, advocating for themselves, communicating effectively, important life skills, and teach them what they’re gen. ed. friends are learning but at their own pace :)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to play games (including board games, sports, or any games your kids might like to play), I enjoy coloring/crafts and the fun spin kids like to put on them, learning or watching educational videos, and just about anything else a kid likes to do :)
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is caring about the kids that you’re with. Taking interest in what they enjoy, knowing what they don’t. Being willing to do something you may not want to do but the kids will enjoy. Having a positive attitude, even if the days get a little hard.
It’s also about creating boundaries and helping parents with teaching kids important life skills!

My experience with special needs children...
Currently work in a special education department at an elementary school in Mass.
Typically 1:1 (during reg. school year) but I have no problem if it’s 2:1 or even 3:1 (as that has been the norm for summer school)!
We work on communicating wants/needs, toileting, following directions, taking turns, patience, controlling voice and body, and also just the academics of their gen. ed. class but at their own pace!

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have been a habitual sitter for a few years for different families. Here are some of my favorite memories:
There was this family with a little boy (8mo- 1.5 yrs at the time) and his favorite thing to do was swing. There were days where we were outside for hours and he would just laugh the entire time until he fell asleep swinging. It made me so happy that he was having such a good time just swinging, so pushing him never bothered me :)
Another family I sat for one night wanted to play the real life version of a game they enjoyed (some mobile escape room-type game) and we spent about an hour collecting/making pieces we would need for the game. They were so thankful that I was willing to assist them in making this pretend game become reality. Their creativity was incredible to witness.
Overall, my favorite thing to see in kids is them just being themselves and not being afraid to be themselves :)
