A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Grace and I am currently a 22 year old in grad school for Occupational Therapy at St. Louis University. I have had over 11 years working with children of all ages and abilities and still keep in touch with almost all of them.

I have found that children thrive off structure and fun. I’m a big advocate for limiting (or fully eliminating technology) and planning out magical days filled with crafts, science, and outdoor time. I grew up playing sports in a super athletic family and I believe fostering learning through nature, play and creativity allows children to believe they are limitless and can become whoever they want to be. I also believe in organization and tidiness.

My families have always appreciated how clean I keep the house and I am always happy to help out with chores and help model/foster an environment where your kiddos feel excited to do the same. I am so excited to potentially hear more about your family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have had over 11 years working with children of all ages and abilities. I would describe my personality as charismatic, adaptable, creative, and responsible. I began nannying in Kansas City when I was 11 years old and quickly gained an extraordinary community of kiddos and families who I, still today, would do anything for. I have nannied for the same family, full time the last 3 summers (2 absolutely amazing, smart, and super active boys) and many other families part time since I was 11 who I still see regularly.

I am CPR certified and love to swim!! I was previously a lifeguard for 4 summers, taught swim lessons (for a scale of children from normally developing to fully disabled). Six is my absolute favorite age and I am excited to hear back from you guys if you are interested!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Normal days are pretty structured. I usually bring a binder alongside my "nanny bag" (or as the kids call it the "fun bag":)) filled with crafts, recipes, and science projects.

I use the binder to structure our days. For example, my last nanny family had swim lessons every morning from 8-10am and required reading at the library everyday per the parents request. Therefore, I built that into a document, but also left blank spaces I could fill out with different activities, tasks, or chores to be completed with the kiddos throughout the day.

I also use the binder to communicate with the parents. I write daily notes explaining what we did and how the kiddos did throughout the day.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe the most important part about being a nanny is understanding the magic of kiddos and what a gift everyday is with them. Fostering creativity, compassion and hard work through modeling behaviors and mutual trust/respect is so important. As a nanny the most important job is to create a space for kids to feel safe to explore and be whoever they want to be without limits.

I also think structure is extremley important and should be tailored to every child's individual needs. When I nanny I use a strength-based approach to identify strengths of each kiddo and use those to help in areas where they struggle.

It is also super important to me to have open and honest communication with parents. I embrace feedback and love to hear what I can do differently to best fit your needs or the needs of your children. All the amazing kiddos I have been able to nanny and work with are the products of there awesome parents.

My experience with special needs children...

As a student in SLU's Master of Occupational Therapy program I have extensive experience with special needs children. I have led special need camps, taught special need swim lessons, and volunteered within therapeutic preschools.

I would LOVE to work with a family with a child/children with disabilities. I am looking for a challenge and areas to learn and grow as a future person and therapist.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Ohhhh so many...

I have had some of the most extraordinary moments of my life with my nanny kiddos. To name a few-

1 The first family I ever nannied lived a block away and had two children. I was eleven years old and by the time I left that family I was 18 years old and they had five children. They involved me quite a bit throughout the birth of each kiddo. I was "on-call" and watched the kiddos when the youngest was born.:) I still today see them as family.

2) Two boys I nannied for began piano lessons our first summer when they were young and the last day I nannied for them before going to college they played a duet of amazing Grace on the piano. they had been practicing all summer. I was so taken aback and will forever remember that moment with so much love and gratitude.
