Hi!! My name is Gracie. I’m a 22 year old college student and bodybuilder/powerlifter. I absolutely adore kids and have been working with them professionally since I was 15. Every job since then has been with children. I have experience with kids of all ages and abilities, including your special needs angels, as I have also worked in a hospital children’s behavioral unit and am currently working to be a children’s therapist. I’m the oldest daughter with 2 younger brothers as well, so my experience started pretty early on in life 🤣🤣. I like to think I’m a pretty energetic, laid back, empathetic, and fun person, especially when given the opportunity to be surrounded by kiddos. The most important part about being a nanny...

kids are so new to the world, they’re just getting everything figured out and have so many questions and ideas and feelings that they don’t understand. to me, the most important part of working with kids is understanding that and learning to understand how their little brains work. this also would include the ability to have immense patience and understanding along with empathy in even the most stressful and difficult situations. getting elevated and frustrated only makes situations worse and harder for a child’s brain. they absorb things and experiences like a sponge so the ability to be gentle with them is to me, top of the priority list. you could be fun and organized and seem like you have everything together, but if you can’t give children grace and understanding and learn to work with them instead of against them when things get tough, you’ll end up doing more harm than good.

My experience with special needs children...

as previously stated, I have worked in a children’s behavioral unit at a hospital assisting kids of all ages and all needs/ability levels, including but not limited to asd, adhd, odd, developmental disorders, anxiety, and more. I also have experience at my previous job at foss swim school instructing kids with special needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have been working with a family since I was in highschool watching the kids and helping the parents around the house. They have a girl and boy ages 10 and 8. Recently the girl has been going through a lot of changes and challenging times. Since I’ve known them so long, we have made a pretty strong bond, almost like a younger/older sister relationship. I have the privilege of being someone she looks up to and trusts with her thoughts, feelings, experiences, etc. I see a lot of myself in her and started thinking she might be dealing with adhd and the challenges that come with it as a young girl. I dealt with the same and was diagnosed much later in life. I decided to speak to her mom and she ended up getting evaluated and I was right!! She now has a therapist and is getting the support she needs. Although not necessarily a funny moment, it was definitely heartwarming and made me grateful for the experiences and knowledge I have to be able to help her now and throughout her life :))
