Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I currently work at The University of Michigan Medicine Mott Children’s hospital in the multi-specialty unit. My role was to create and facilitate activities for all 6 floors for both the patients and their parents during their time there. I would participate in every activity and engaged with our patients during their wait between doctors.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts, playing outside, scavenger hunts, reading, exploring and introducing them to new things, making a blanket fort, building ANYTHING from ANYTHING :), going to community events, exploring new physical activities such as swimming or soccer..., creating a garden and watching things grow, picking out new foods to try, cooking/baking together, learning from each other, pretend play, making friends and hosting/attending play dates.

The most important part about being a Nanny is opening your heart to the children we care for. Showing love and encouraging happy, healthy development is crucial for their future.

My experience with special needs children...

The most significant special needs experience is my nanny role for a child with hemophilia. My role began with a toddler who was two and ended when he was six years old. My responsibilities required constant and meticulous supervision because of the risks involved if/when injured. The severity of this bleeding/clotting condition required supervision at his private school when he began preK-prep at three years old until 1st grade. On a daily basis I acted as an aid in the classroom to help create normalcy. However, the number one priority was to be aware of his actions to prevent injury or determine if an injury would require factor injections and/or other medical attention.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment is difficult to pick! One moment that sticks out in my mind was a birthday "gift" we made for Mom because it brought tears of joy and filled the home with a contagious amount of love. The gift was something that at the time seemed sweet and simple; sticky notes placed on her bathroom mirror with quotes of things that made Mom special to him. The notes were placed in the shape of a heart and written in his words. When she went to change out of her work scrubs the surprise was discovered and meant so much to both of them. I will remember this Nanny moment forever.
