A little bit about me

I am 26 years old with 16 years of childcare under my belt, including mother's helping, babysitting, nannying, and camp counseling. I am passionate about working with children, particularly children with special needs, to help support them in their socioemotional growth and development. With a Master's degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, I also prioritize incorporating the arts and mental health care into my childcare practices. I am looking for a 9-5 position (or similar) in Connecticut, which would also allow me to work part-time as a telehealth dance therapist several evenings a week and as an assistant director of a local youth dance company.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a camp counselor and a counselor trainer at a Lutheran outdoor sleepaway camp for 5 years. I interned at a therapeutic nursery school with child ages 2-5 for one year as a part of my dance therapy masters education.

The most important part about being a nanny...

With every family I have provided care for, it has been my utmost goal to be loving, patient, firm, and encouraging in the child's socioemotional and developmental growth. I think it is also vitally important to support parents in their own goals within their families, so it is very important to have the right fit between nanny and family.

My experience with special needs children...

1) I helped care for a close friend with Down syndrome for the majority of my adolescence
2) I babysat for several autistic children through my 15 years of childcare
3) I interned in a therapeutic nursery school during my Master's program, working with children ages 2-5 who are autistic or with other behavioral/developmental diagnoses
4) My personal philosophy in working with children with special needs is play-based, child-centered care, respecting the child as a whole person, not as a problem to be fixed.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are so many! A particular favorite occurred earlier this summer, creating a summer scrapbook of favorite memories with the family I cared for (whom I have been working with part-time for 3 years). It was so fun decorating pages and reflecting on all the fun we had together.
