More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

One of my most relevant experiences was my role as a nanny for a private family in Toronto.
In this position, I provided comprehensive childcare for children ranging from infants to preschoolers, including twins/multiples and a child with special needs

My responsibilities included:

Infant care (feeding, sleep training, developmental milestones)
Toddler/preschooler engagement (educational play, potty training, preschool prep)
Managing multiples (synchronizing schedules, fostering sibling bonding)
Supporting special needs (collaborating with therapists, implementing sensory-friendly activities)
Beyond childcare, I also enjoy household management, meal prep, travel coordination, which required exceptional organization, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. This role deepened my ability to anticipate needs, maintain routines under pressure, and communicate effectively with both children and parents—skills I know are vital for this position.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I believe in fostering creativity, learning, and joy through a mix of structured and child-led play. Some of my favorite activities include:

For Infants & Toddlers:

Sensory Exploration: Mess-free painting, texture bins, and music play to stimulate cognitive development.
Motor Skill Development: Tummy-time games, stacking blocks, and baby sign language.
Interactive Storytime: Using puppets, props, and animated voices to bring books to life.

For Preschoolers:

STEM Play: Simple science experiments (volcanoes, sink/float), nature scavenger hunts, and counting games.
Imaginative Play: Dress-up, DIY puppet shows, and building forts to encourage storytelling.
Life Skills: Baking together (measuring ingredients), gardening, or "cleaning games" to teach responsibility.

For Multiples/Siblings:

Cooperative Games: Team puzzles, relay races, or collaborative art projects to build bonding.
Individualized Attention: Rotating one-on-one time to ensure each child feels valued.

The most important part about being a nanny...

At its core, being a nanny is about far more than keeping children safe and entertained. The true essence of this role lies in the profound responsibility of shaping young lives during their most formative years. While the job involves many practical tasks - preparing meals, organizing activities, maintaining routines - the most critical aspect is the nurturing of trust, emotional security, and healthy development. This multifaceted role requires equal parts caregiver, educator, and emotional anchor, all while adapting to each child's unique needs and personality.

Trust forms the bedrock of every meaningful nanny-child relationship. Unlike teachers who see children for limited hours or relatives who visit occasionally, nannies become consistent presences in children's daily lives. This consistency allows for the development of deep bonds that can significantly impact a child's sense of security and self-worth.

My experience with special needs children...

I have had the privilege of supporting children with a range of special needs (including autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, sensory processing challenges, and developmental delays) through individualized, compassionate care. My approach focuses on:

Building Trust & Safety: Creating predictable routines and calm environments to help children feel secure
Therapeutic Engagement: Implementing sensory-friendly activities (weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, tactile bins) and incorporating OT/SP recommendations
Communication Adaptations: Using visual schedules, PECS, or basic ASL based on each child's needs
Inclusive Play: Modifying games/toys to ensure participation while respecting boundaries
Collaborative Care: Working closely with parents, therapists, and educators to maintain consistency

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my most treasured experiences happened while caring for a four-year-old child on the autism spectrum. The family had shared that their child avoided physical contact with anyone outside their immediate family, often reacting strongly to unexpected touch.

It was a typical afternoon at the park, our usual routine after naptime. The child loved swinging but became easily overwhelmed by loud noises. As we settled into our rhythm, another child’s sudden laughter nearby caused visible distress. I saw the signs of an impending meltdown—the stiffened posture, the quickened breathing.

I dropped to eye level and referenced a favorite book we’d been reading all week. I extended my hand, palm up, and said we needed to connect our safety lines.

Then something remarkable happened. After a few shaky breaths, the child placed their hand in mine—not just a tentative touch, but a proper grasp. We walked together like that to a quieter area, the child’s free hand fluttering with excitement.

Hello! My name is Samiya! I’m a 25-year-old living in Etobicoke, born in Montreal, Quebec. I’ve been working with children ever since I was a child myself! I’m often told children gravitate to me, which I attribute to the fact I’m still a child at heart.

My background includes a BA in Psychology with a certificate in ABA therapy. My experience includes camp counseling starting at age 16 (ages 4-12). After graduating, I worked as an ABA therapist where I gained experience with developmental needs, ADHD, and autism for ages 2-17.

Part-Time Nanny Available in Toronto, ON: Samira S.

Hey y'all my name is Samira Muamba. I am a university student and I'm currently on break and I just wanted to find a productive way to spend my time and also have a way to gain a little cash. I've never been without a job before and it's scary because I live in a single parent household and I can't go back to my old workplace due to them violating my workers rights many times. I'm hoping I can with you. I have worked at camps for three consecutive summers. Due to some of my relatives also being single or working full hours I have taken care of their kids as well. I have also volunteered my times at my grandma's former building with all the activities organized for the elderly. I am also super kind and I think I get on more with kids than adults sometimes but I really hope we get the chance to hit it off!
