Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I absolutely love creating stations with children where they are able to be creative and play while also having objectives to achieve goals. For instance, on a rainy day where we might not be able to venture outside, setting up three stations in which kids are allocated a set amount of time allows for understanding sharing, being able to use different skills, and they are able to learn something new. Station #1 can be something simple as building puzzles, Station #2 can be looking into a mirror and being able to draw a self portrait on a piece of paper, and Station #3 would be learning “kindness” with the help of a book and being able to talk about the ways in which you can show kindness on a daily basis. Activities that involve engagement and communication are a major brain development for children between 2-5 years old.
My experience with special needs children...
As a camp counselor, I have helped foster a safe environment for kids with all backgrounds, and have always taken into account any ways in which some children need an extra helping hand in dealing with their feelings, separating themselves from tough situations, and working with them to find the root of the problem and finding solutions.
