I have worked at a childcare facility for 2 years in which I have worked with all ages 0-10. Otherwise, I’ve sat for parents with kids ages 0-6 years old for 5 years. I have worked with special needs kids and have been First Aid, CPR and AED, Safe Sleep, and Universal Precautions trained!

The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, a nanny is someone who becomes part of a family, not just an employee for one. Routine and consistency are extremely important especially for younger children. But overall you want your nannying experience to be a positive experience for the child/children even in moments where the child needs redirecting. It's important to have guidelines and rules while nannying but also leave some room for flexibility in the day. You never know what a day will bring!
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for several special needs children over the years. This includes a child with cystic fibrosis within a daycare facility, special needs high school kids as well as a child with severe autism within a daycare facility.

My favorite part of being a nanny is becoming a part of the family. Being a nanny is such a personal and intimate experience and being able to share those special moments with the kids and parents is absolutely my favorite part.

I've learned so many ways to make learning feel like games. If I can engage all of their senses with plenty of giggles, then they don't even notice they're learning. Brain building doesn't have to be with paper at a table. I've also worked with many children who had disabilities or were neurodivergent. Another thing I love about being a Nanny is getting to help the whole family. I've found that if I take some of the cleaning and cooking tasks, then parents can spend more time with the kids. I think spending time together with their parents is very important to a child's development.
