More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I'm in a Childhood Education class and tend to work in the daycare section of my highschool in the mornings occasionally, and I have babysat my brother numerous times before (though he is only about 11 months and a half younger then me he is special needs, with a learning disability and lack of attention towards things, if I had a nickel for every time he broke a microwave by putting something he should not have I'd have 3 nickels)
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and crafts! and just having long deep conversations with them, I like seeing things from their point of view and sometimes kids say the most weirdest things but I think it's neat, if it's for a slightly older kid (about like 9+) that wants to play video games then I enjoy looking at their faces when I beat them and win whatever we are playing (As much as I can be nice, I will not go easy on you when it comes to Mario Kart. Consider it war.)
The most important part about being a nanny...
Is that there needs to be an understanding of a child's thinking process, and how to react to said process if they make a mistake or anything else, as a young child I was basically nurtured to consider that any mistake I did was incredibly wrong even if it was as simple as spilling water, children cannot determine what is right or wrong and the only way they somehow learn it is from the reaction of others to what they do. Basically, you do not want create a sense of fear towards something to a developing child because it will STICK to them like glue, like yelling at a child for making a mess, sure they learn not to make a mess again because they create a association that mess=yelling, and yelling=bad, but that's because it creates a sense of fear, you can be assertive but you also have to be understanding that the child didn't intentionally do it, you can explain why its not that great and you can teach HOW to fix that, which most don't do.
My experience with special needs children...
My brother, though I wouldn't say I had to watch his every move now because he's old enough to do things for himself (though I admit I watch him closely whenever he's in the kitchen, we are not going to be getting a 4th microwave anytime soon and I'll make sure of it), when we were younger I just had to make sure he wouldn't get himself into any trouble and if I can, make meals until my mom or older sister comes home (I was more experienced and responsible when it came to cooking even if I was just a couple of months older than him).
