More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
For a majority of my life, I’ve babysat weather it was at church in the nursery or working all summer at a childrens youth camp through that Ive taken care of multiple age groups from ages 7-17.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
For the past four years, I’ve dedicated my summers to creating fun and meaningful experiences for children at summer camp. I love getting kids outside, being creative, playing games, doing crafts, baking, cooking, exploring, and finding ways for them to have fun beyond just being on a screen. That doesn’t mean I’m against a good movie day! I think there’s a time for that too. I just really enjoy helping kids discover things they genuinely have fun doing and creating memories along the way.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part of being a nanny is creating a relationship where both the child and the parents feel like they can trust you. Of course keeping children safe is always the priority, but I also want kids to feel comfortable being themselves around me. I want to be someone they can have fun with, learn from, talk to, and know is going to be there for them.
My experience with special needs children...
I have personal experience caring for my cousin, who has Down syndrome, is developmentally delayed and nonverbal, and has additional medical needs. I’ve babysat and cared for him many times over the years, which has taught me a lot about patience, communication, and understanding needs that may not always be expressed verbally. I also know some sign language. I’m not fluent, but I’m always willing and excited to learn more, especially if it helps me better communicate with and understand a child in my care. Most importantly, I believe every child deserves to feel understood, included, safe, and free to be themselves.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments working with kids happened at summer camp. A camper had to leave early because she was dealing with social anxiety. I hadn’t really gotten the chance to get to know her that week, but I sat with her while she waited for her mom. As we talked, I could actually see her start to relax and open up a bit.
Before she left, I asked if she thought she might come back to camp. She said yes, and told me that even though the week had been hard, she had met staff who made her feel seen and reminded her it was okay to have anxiety That moment has really stuck with me because it’s exactly what I try to do when I work with kids.
