Right out of high-school in 1990 I was a live in nanny for a family in River Falls, WI with 3 boys, 5, 4, and 4mos old. I nannied for them for 5 months until I got married and moved away.
I am a mother to a 32 yr old and a 30 yr old (daughters). One is on the spectrum.
As a military wife I provided daycare in my home for other military families with an age range from newborn (1 week) all the way through middle school (12 yrs). I provided nutritional meals and snacks, educational activities, physical activity time both indoors and outdoors.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being able to be consistent in showing up and being in the child/children's life(lives). And being PRESENT when you are there, not being on your phone, etc. Making sure you are giving your very best and 110% while you are with the child(ren) and making sure they are comfortable with you, safe, fed, having fun, getting some kind of educational experience with you at the same time, and that you are following the rules and protocol set forth by the parents.
My experience with special needs children...
My sister was profoundly mentally challenged so I grew up having experience with that.
My daughter (30 yrs old) has Aspergers, and is on the spectrum. She also has mental health diagnoses, severe ADHD, and anxiety being amongst some of those.
I have worked in adult care facilities, working with adults with varying degrees of physical and mental challenges, so although they were not children, they were, many were child-like in their fraility and cognitive ability.
