More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

As stated in my bio, I was a preschool teacher and am currently a nanny to a 6 month old girl! I also frequently babysit most of my previous students and their siblings! I have a close relationship with all of the families I work with and I highly value open communication and transparency! I'm extremely flexible and involved, always looking for new things to try, continuing my education into child development, and planning really fun and engaging activities for the kids! I tend have just as much fun as they do! My current nanny position is on Thursdays and Fridays during the day, so I am looking to fill up the rest of the week and possibly weekends if it feels right!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I looove planning and facilitating really fun and engaging developmentally appropriate activities! I take a very nature and play based approach to teaching and I think the best way to learn is by trying new things and following our natural curiosity (reasonably). For example, some things I have planned in the past: collecting leaves and flowers during a walk to make "magic wands" with once back home, dance parties with instruction led music (hop little bunnies, lets go swimming), obstacle courses, save the animals, sensory bins, scavenger hunts, building forts & caves for our stuffies, making birdseed ornaments, painting with berries, making instruments, and always leaving time to take body breaks, ground ourselves, read books and maybe even do some yoga and breath work!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is undoubtedly the impact you make! To me, community is everything, the way I choose to make a difference is by contributing to my community and being a part of the village that raises our next generations. Being around children is such special opportunity to leave a positive impact and instill a sense of self love, individualism and security in young ones that is strong enough to not be broken. My personal philosophy when it comes to caring for children, is empathy, patience, and kindness comes before anything. It is necessary to have the ability to regulate your own emotions and be a good example of what it looks like to move kindly and gracefully through life. I take a gentle approach to teaching littles, always acknowledging and listening to their emotions without judgement or casting shame. Life is full of ups and downs, it's our job to give them the tools they need to navigate life with a strong sense of self and confidence!

My experience with special needs children...

During my time as a CNA, I did in home care for a 16 year old girl with both physical and developmental disabilities. This included assisting in all activities of daily living and medication administration and blood sugar checks! During my time as a preschool teacher, I also worked closely with families in identifying needs for early intervention and working together to come up with and implement care plans to ensure all individual and unique needs were consistently met!

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment by far was taking one of my previous 2 year old students on a weekend walk to City Park. It sounds simple, but my childhood home is directly across from it, and I grew up going to that park almost every day with my older brother. It holds a good part of my childhood memories and was so special to me growing up. While I have gone there many times since I was little, it was my first time experiencing it from a child's eye again. We picked sticks to make crafts with at the preschool the next day, hunted for acorns, smelled all the flowers, followed the ducks, even swung on the very swing I remember loving when I was her age! It was so special to feel that child-like wonder again, and even more special to get to pass those experiences and feelings on to the next little girl who's childhood will be rooted in that park, just like mine!
