I'm a former infant/toddler lead teacher, babysitter and stay at home mom of 2 children. My daughter is 19 and my son is 18. He is on the autism spectrum, so I have quite a bit of experience dealing with a child with special needs. My CPR and first aid are currently expired, but I'm more than willing to attend the class necessary to renew it.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a stay-at-home mom for my two children who are now 18 and 19. After my husband, their father, died when they were just three and four years old I made sure that I taught them Independence. They do their chores, their own laundry, can make themselves meals and are very responsible. My daughter is the only child I have with a license and before she could take her car out I taught her how to check all of her fluids and add any that were needed, how to check your tire pressure and change a spare tire. She wanted to learn how to change her own oil so I showed her that as well. My son who is on the autism spectrum has worked very hard to not only graduate on time but with a regular diploma. It was a long tough road for the family to get him back to where he was developmentally age appropriate and to get through High School, but together as a family we did it.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Of course activities change as children grow, but I enjoy making milestone development activities fun. The games and activities involving sensory, color and number learning, helping to develop any areas that a child may be developmentally behind are all things that I find rewarding.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Consistency in care. Frequent turnover of caregivers can be confusing and emotionally disturbing to children

My experience with special needs children...

During my experience as a long-term sub in a public school preschool there was a boy on the autism spectrum who took to me immediately. I was his person. When he was getting ready to move into kindergarten the school system asked me to stay on full-time as his Aid. Unfortunately I was pregnant with my first daughter at that time and was on my way to be coming a stay-at-home mom. Little did I know that that that experience with Tyler was going to be extremely beneficial to me because my second child was also diagnosed on the autism spectrum
