A little bit about me

Currently a stay at home wife, recently moved to Lindstrom from Woodbury!

I am a Christian and enjoy reading, music, being active, and spending time with family and friends!

I enjoy working with all ages but really enjoy infants and toddlers to five-year-olds because they are learning and developing at a fast rate. The developmental stages are fewer but are such big and exciting mile stones! I also enjoy that you can still play pretend with them as they explore imagination but you can have intellectual conversations with them!

I have a B.A. in Movement & Exercise Science, specializing in Sport Psychology and have enjoyed implementing that into the daily routine of past roles in early childhood education. I was on a music scholarship in college and still enjoy playing and learning music. I have three years of experience directly developing and leading two year old classes through structured learning activities and two years of leading an early childhood program in a certified center.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked in five different childcare settings from daycare and early learning/preschool to live out part-time nannying. While in college I worked at an after school daycare and at the early learning center of the YMCA. I worked at the same part time day care experience for five years at a church and absolutely loved it, while also working part-time as a live out nanny for a toddler boy. I only left there because I was given a full-time lead teacher opportunity at another faith based Early Learning Center. I was a lead teacher for two years then I became the assistant director of youth development for the same YMCA I worked for in college. There I over saw the early learning center and Montessori programs.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love teaching! It’s so fun to show children something new and experience watching them learn! My favorite thing right now is when they start to count things and learn the difference between a "little" and "a lot" or seeing what types of art they enjoy. I also really enjoy implementing my Exercise Science education background and teaching the importance of being healthy and active while making it fun!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I would say is balance. A good balance between nurturing and instructing.

Learning academically is incredibly important, but so is learning about emotions, kindness, self-awareness, etc.

My experience with special needs children...

I was a part-time para with the Ottumwa School District for two years while in college. I worked in behavior classes, and in special education classes as well as one-on-one situations. I was also involved in the Spectrum Project in college, working with children and adults on the spectrum in the University of Northern Iowa theater department. It was an absolute blast!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I really enjoyed the family I nannied part-time for, specifically because I was with them for so long. I was able to watch their son grow from an infant to a two-year-old! Seeing the developmental changes he went through, like; growing into new clothing and shoe sizes, learning to sit up and eat solid foods, to talking, walking and eventually running and having his own opinions was an incredibly fun experience! I’m still in contact with the family and love getting updates and seeing his school pictures!
