More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been babysitting since I was only a child myself at the age of 11-years old and have continued through my senior year of high school. I helped a family get their children ready for school in the morning and on the bus before I started school for the day. I have also worked in my church nursery and have volunteered teaching vacation Bible school. I do enjoy all age groups. I have been CPR certified years ago and I have no problem going through it again, if you'd like to pay for the classes. However, I do know what to do for infants as well as toddlers. I do very well in stressful situations. Raising an autistic child has given me lots of practice and patience. I assure you, children are in great hands with me.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love art, music, books, games and nature. I always educated my children along the way. So I'd aim to pick activities that were fun and educational. Of course, it's always important to just be silly. At 6 mos., I taught baby sign language so that my children could tell me their needs. When my children were able to read books on their own, I'd read books to them that were above their reading level. I would use vocabulary that was at a higher level. When my son started kindergarten his reading and writing comprehension was at a 3rd grade level. I do believe some has to do with what I've taught, but mostly on how he absorbs material. He could tell time, by the minute, when he was only three. My daughter was different even though I did the same things with her. My son was into numbers and soaking in everything non-fiction, where my daughter was more into fiction, being creative and dancing. Every child is unique and it's important to learn what their interests are and encourage them.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a nurturer by nature, if I’ve been given the gift to care for another child, I will love and care for each like I do my own. All children are so precious and their childhood needs love, proper care and nourishment, gentle correction, acceptance, and lots of fun for a healthy and happy outcome. I’ve had a nanny for my kids, when I was working from home, and she’s still one of my favorite people in the world. She loves my kids with her whole heart to this day. She now has her own children and we still connect. Choosing a nanny isn’t always easy and it’s scary, but I had a wonderful feeling with Jesana and that feeling was so much more than I ever imagined. We were and are truly blessed by her. I wouldn’t be anything less for your child/ren.
My experience with special needs children...
My son was born on the spectrum and has ADHD, sensory issues, and many others that fit the spectrum. Since he was 3-months old, he’s been going to doctor after doctor. He’s been to many different types of therapy appointments. So many I didn’t even know existed. I am big into research and it’s the only way I was able to help my son as much as I have. I research still today.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I’ve never been a nanny but I have cared for other’s children and my own, so I can say my favorite moments are the one-on-one quality times where the child and I are able to be fully present. Kids know if you’re there 100% for them and it’s so important for not only their growth, but to know they are loved and accepted right there in that moment. It can be quiet time reading a book; or, coloring with our tongues out and making silly faces; or, listening to a child share a super long moment; or, even outside playing soccer with the dog. All are precious moments to me and I believe it creates a special bond that children need. And I feel very honored to be given this gift of time with each.
