Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Reading, baking/cooking, science experiments, library visits, arts and crafts, picnics, dance parties, hide and seek, singing, and lots more! I love to bring out the natural passions of a child, and also introduce them to new activities to expand their experiences and knowledge.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is helping a child find their inner confidence. Every child is different and has a unique gift to offer the world. It's important to help them recognize that, and cheer them on as they become their own special human in this big world.
My experience with special needs children...
I do not have particular experience with special needs children but I have a sister on the autistic spectrum who regressed in her early twenties. I spend 15 months recently assisting my parents as one of her main caretakers. While she has been diagnosed as "highly functioning", she continues to have difficulty regulating her emotions. I have experience with her autistic meltdowns. I would absolutely be open to assisting a family with a child with special needs and am open to learning additional skills to ensure they family is comfortable with my care.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is hugging my nephew before I leave for the evening and hearing him say (for the first time and then every time after), "Awww, I'm gonna miss you."
