A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Julia, I’m twenty-nine years old, and I was born and raised in Minnesota. I‘ve spent the past few years working part time as a nanny for several families with kids of various ages. I have infant experience (6 months and up), toddler experience, and experience with kids from ages 6-12 years as well. Prior to becoming a nanny, I worked as a direct support professional and independent living skills counselor in a group home and in community based settings. I worked with individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses and neurodivergent individuals, helping them learn life and coping skills. I have ten plus years of child care and related experience and am CPR and first aid certified. I have taken child development training courses including SIDS, and head trauma. In my free time I enjoy photography, arts and crafts, movies, and spending time with my fiancé up north anywhere near Lake Superior. I have been an independent nanny for the past several years. I have experience with a wide variety of ages and ability levels.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to do arts and crafts, get outside and explore nature, build forts, and anything else that involves imaginative play. I try to avoid putting kids in front of screens because I feel that is not what I am being paid to do, and I prefer to interact with the children and participate in the activities I do with the children instead.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being present and taking joy from the work I do. I’ve never had another job where the hours just seem to fly by like they do with nannying, and I truly love every minute of it. I feel it is such a privilege to be welcomed into someone’s home and trusted with their children’s safety and development, and I take that very seriously.

My experience with special needs children...

I have previously worked as a direct support professional and independent living skills counselor with adults with neurodivergence and mental illnesses. I also have experience working with toddlers and young children with autism and Down Syndrome, both verbal and non verbal.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was when I spent weeks teaching a child I was working with who had non verbal autism how to high five. One day, he finally got it, and he was so proud of himself! We showed mom and dad and all celebrated. It’s such a happy memory for me.
