A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Julie. I am a mother of a 31 and 25 year old. I moved to Mancos after working as a neurobiologist for over 12 years at UCD. I am CPR and First Aid certified. I am an active, fun and loving person with lots of experience working with kids. I like taking walks, swimming and being outdoors. I enjoy being around kids to help them learn and grow in positive and healthy ways. I am a responsible, trustworthy and loyal person with good recommendations. I love reading, reading to children and helping them learn to read/write. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to meet you soon.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am currently a full time substitute teacher in Montezuma County working with ages Pre- K through high school. I worked as a teachers aide for an infant/toddler center in 1997 for a couple years. I was head teacher at an after school program in Berkeley, CA. I have worked as a nanny for 2 year old toddler twins. I have managed up to 32 undergraduates at the University in a lab setting for over a decade. I have just completed my TEFL/ TESOL certification.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Books, puzzles, nature walks, water play, playdough, parks, science experiments, listening to them and outdoor fun! Respecting what the parents want to see their child do and accomplish, I will try and accommodate as best I can. As parents, you know, kids moods change frequently. I am flexible and adaptable. I can go off the child's mood if they are tired or just not feeling up to par ( go with the flow) as long as the parents are o.k. with that decision. I also like to hear what the children have to say about what they would like to do for the day if the parent (s)agree.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being safe, trustworthy and loyal and consistent in my approach.

My experience with special needs children...

Not a whole lot. I have spent a bit of time in a special needs classroom with autistic children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Watching their face light up when they learn something new or they are happy! Laughter is precious.
