Is being there for the kids, and allowing the parents to get the much needed time and help to take care for their family. I enjoy being a positive influence in other’s lives and showing how genuinely kind people can make such a difference in a child’s life.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for a girl that is non verbal autistic, she communicates through tones and sounds and has picked up a few key words. After becoming familiar with me she would pull me away as soon as I arrive at the home to play games or grab her snacks. She’s very artistic and skilled at recreating her favorite scenes from movies with props she may find around the home. We’ve dealt with a few break downs but learned coping skills and mechanisms such as blanket time and jumping sessions. I have learned quite a lot from her and am so proud of all she’s accomplished.
The most important part about being a nanny...
A memorable moment that comes to mind would be my third time watching the first kids I baby sat. They both looked down the stairs excited when I came into the home, they lit up with joy and ran to me screaming my name eager to show off their school projects. The pure joy they showed sharing their experiences with me and the happiness on the parents face still makes me smile to this day.
