A little bit about me

My name is Kailyn Slater, I am currently 18 years old. I am taking a gap year to figure out what i would like to pursue in the future. I graduated high school in the class of 2024. I worked in a class called unified pe. I basically worked with kids from down syndrome all the way to nonverbal, feeding tubes, high care high school students with getting daily exercise in as well as make friends in the real world. I also grew up as the older cousin in my family. I have cousins from ages 4-14. I always helped feed, bathe, change, put to sleep. My family always called me the "baby whisperer". I also just recently became an aunt for the first time. I have always had the biggest soft spot for kids. I grew up with a pediatric nurse as mom which influenced my knowledge on kids a lot as well. I am leaning towards going back to college to be a Sonographer or possibly an RN which I would prefer to be on the pediatric side of a hospital myself.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I always tend to be the family babysitter on visits and vacations. I know that sounds like i got the short end of the stick, but honestly I wouldn't ever have it any other way. I would much rather be the cousin or aunt that the child chooses they would rather sit,eat,sleep, have to put to sleep or even if they just want me to hold them to calm them down. I also had a period of time where my mom was a real estate agent and some of her clients with young kids would ask me babysit for them even if it was just for them to eat dinner together, go on couple trips, or even if they just wanted to go to the grocery store alone.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I absolutely love to play games that will change kids and have them challenge their minds. I love to go out to maybe a zoo to teach them and let the experience how beautiful life can be. Have movie dates, where i let them pick the movie and if they are old enough what they would like to eat while watch thus movie.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think having a great relationship with not just the kids but also the parents can make or break being a nanny. I feel like if your not welcomed in as a part of the village there is always unnecessary tension.

My experience with special needs children...

During my high school career I was a part of a class called unified pe. That class was a student led class where the best of the best students had to write an essay, as well as get 3 teacher recommendations. The CC2/CC3 teachers got to read and hand select the students they thought deserved the opportunity to be included in those young adults life. I was lucky enough to be apart of this program for all 3 years it was offered to me. I made a special bonds with those kids i would never trade in the world. I also used to watch one of my classmates when his mom needed a break to run errands. He was very aggressive but for some reason in his heart we became best friends right away. I am also neighbors to one of my down syndrome classmates as well. I honestly don't know who gets more excited to see one another me or him.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moment nannying is watch the kids personality grow, teaching them how to walk and talk. Having a special bond knowing they are comfortable with me and see me as an addition to the family.
