Understanding your kids. I believe in talking to them like they are real people( no matter what age) and helping them to navigate the world. They look to us for guidance and we must be there to give it to them. Also being careful about how you say and do things.
My experience with special needs children...
I have a brother with autism and I care for him frequently. Any sensory issues are adjusted to his liking, no extra loud noises, repetitive speech to help him understand, & I calm him down very well when it comes to having any meltdowns.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I try to surprise my kids any chance I get and they caught me while I was in the middle of getting them ice-cream, I tried to play a prank and tell them it was just sour cream but they ate it anyway and it was just super funny and lighthearted to me.
