A little bit about me

I have worked with kids all of my life, it seems, including raising 6 children of my own and caring for and housing four step-children including a son with special needs. I have seven lovely grands and try to see them as often as I can. I also home schooled the children, so I currently also work as a tutor. I love to be outside in my garden, cook yummy food, hang out with my dog (the next one will be a Great Dane!) watch movies, and work at my church.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a home school mom for over 30 years, including teaching classes for the coop we attended. In my 20s and 30s, I ran camping programs. I have taught at after-school programs, and most recently, since 2018, worked at childcare and tutoring full-time to pay the bills.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am a great fan of taking walks, especially to the park! I love reading and music, and providing a good safe space for a children to play and use their imagination. I also greatly enjoy an outing with the children to the zoo or Children’s Museum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is to be a supportive extension of the parents following their lead, schedule, and expectations. Asking the right questions and learning about the house itself is important too.

My experience with special needs children...

I have an older stepson with Prader-Willi Syndrome and have cared for him including home schooling him and providing for his unique limited freedom requirements. He also has some education and developmental delays which had to be addressed.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was able to be a full-time nanny for a 5-year old over a summer. She was bright, inquisitive, friendly, and gentle. She lived in a smaller suburb, and there were many opportunities for us to go to the park and participate in other “daycamp”activities over the weeks. She had a great backyard and was just as happy to be outside playing as she was to be inside reading with me. Her family was open and clear in their expectations, and the whole summer was my favorite “moment”.
