A little bit about me

I have over 25 years experience as a special education teacher in the public schools. For the past 4 years, I have been working as a part time nanny for several families., including 2 1/2 year old twin girls and a 4 year old girl. I currently take care of a 15 month boy whom I have been with for a year. I also currently work part time with a 10 year old boy with physical disabilities and his 12 year old sister. I have been with this family for 3 years now. Both parents would be happy to give a personal reference upon request. My first aide/ CPR certification is current and I have passed a background check. I would like to work in the Clayton/Garner area if possible. I am comfortable with food preparation, light housekeeping, pets, and transporting children. Please be aware that I do not feel comfortable carrying children up/down stairs.

- 3 years experience as a part time nanny for several families, including a year with a baby boy from 4 -15 months, 6 months with 2 1/2 year old twin girls and a 4 year old girl, and 3 years with a 10 year old boy with muscular dystrophy and his 12 year old sister

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

My years of teaching experiences has trained me well for taking children places in the community including parks, pools, libraries, farms and museums to widen their experiences. I continue to enjoy these activities as a prepare for the day I will have grandchildren. I will follow parents' wishes when it comes to technology/tablet time. I personally prefer to engage with the children using card/board games, reading, and arts and crafts and baking cookies. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching new skills to a baby boy as he grew and developed over the last year.

My experience with special needs children...

I have taught for 25+ years in special education in the public schools. My experience includes teaching cognitive, language and social skills in the classroom and in the community to children ages 5-21. Over the years , I have worked with children with autism, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy and significant cognitive and physical delays.

The most important part about being a nanny...

A boy whom I have been with for 3 years now said " Your last name isn't Fries any more, it's _______(his last name) . You're not my baby sitter , you're my grandma.". It was so sincere and so heartwarming.
