A little bit about me

Retired elementary school teacher with over 26 yrs. teaching experience. I have a Master’s degree in teaching reading. Before. My teaching career, I worked at the Kindercare in Boulder in the toddler room. I absolutely love it.i even did some extra baby sitting for some of the toddlers in my care. I have two boys and two girls of my own and a 13 yrs old grand daughter. I love kids of all ages from newborns to school age. I like tutoring, teaching thematic units, reading, crafts, playing, playing outside, baking, reinforcing kindness and manners. Redirection, catching kids being good, praising good choices all help reinforce good behavior. I’m good at organizing, schedules, planning fun activities and art projects, meal prep, snacks, light housekeeping, and kids laundry. I am loving, kind, punctual, and kid centered. I love kids and they love me. I’m a kid magnet.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was an elementary school teacher teaching primarily 1st and 2nd graders. I ran the gymnastics program for children in Adams county, and Gunnison. I taught gymnastics to young kids in Loveland.
I have privately tutored students in reading, writing, and math. Basically whatever subject they needed support in. I currently tutor a special need student who is a delight.
I also was a nanny for a sweet girl for 2 years until they sadly moved. I can provide excellent references.
I babysat kids in our neighborhood for many years. I took childhood classes in 4-H.
Before I started teaching during college I worked at Kindercare during my summers. I worked with the baby/toddlers. I loved it. I created lesson plans and implemented them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some of my favorite indoor activities are reading, finger plays, Nursery rhymes, getting on the floor and playing with children, crafts, art projects, playdough, math activities, shaving cream writing, music, and baking goodies.
Some of my favorite outdoor activities are bike riding, walks, going to play at the park, picnics, running through the sprinkler, playing in the snow, and going. to the library.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Keeping children safe, happy, and engaged in meaningful activities. Working with the parents as a team to have shared goals, expectations, discipline, etc. keeping the parents in the loop during the day through pictures and an activity nanny log which lists meals. snacks, naps, activities, positives, etc. that occurred that day. I keep a notebook for parents notebook to read. For babies, it will be about feeding(how much and how often) activities we did: read a book. Tummy time, outside time (stroller rides etc.) Nap times, how long, etc. anything that puts a parent at ease. Older children will have different items written down. I always mention a positive for the child. Foods eaten, arts and crafts we did, outside play, creative play, and academic actviites meeting where the child is at. And of course books we read. So much more but these are a few. I had babysitters for my four. We’d talk briefly about their day but I yearned to know more about about their day.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with and taught several Down syndrome kids, autistic, ADHD, and dyslexic students. I tutor my niece who has some learning delays. It’s very rewarding to work with these sweet children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The little ones would call me on the weekend because they missed me. So sweet! Their excitement when we’d bake, make play dough creations, and weekly thematic art projects. Getting on the floor and watching them play and joining of the want me too. I love how thrilled they’d get listening to a book. I love teaching the love of reading!
