Going on walks, playing at the park, going to swimming pools, playing with dogs, making crafts, teaching them new skills, and making homework fun!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Making sure the kids are safe and comfortable. I have also learned that the way you talk to children matters, and it's important to lead them with love. The homes we are entering are safe spaces for the children. As nannies we need to take this job seriously.
My experience with special needs children...
For three months I worked as a full-time nanny to a fourteen year old special needs girl. I helped around the house, got her on the bus, played with her, did homework, and cooked her meals.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I nannied a special needs girl, I took her to the park and she loved to talk to the other kids. Ten minutes into being at the park, I had at least five children following us around and wanting to play with us! So for an hour we all played duck, duck, goose and everyone was involved and included. That exact moment is when I realized it was my calling to take care or teach children.
