More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked for Sunshine Learning Center in Memphis, TN. I was in the young 2s room which included 2 year olds who were not yet potty trained. I assisted in the potty training routine as well as helped them become more independent in self care such as washing hands and face, wiping after using the restroom, etc.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I LOVE arts and crafts. I enjoy implementing creative ways to learn by using arts and crafts or hands on experiences. I feel that is when children learn best is when you allow them to be apart of the lesson. I also love using our imaginations during play time, building rocket ships out of a cardboard box so we can travel to space is one example of how I would use creative thinking while teaching children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is fostering a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually. This includes building strong relationships based on trust and open communication, understanding each child's unique needs and interests, and providing love, guidance, and encouragement to help them reach their full potential.
My experience with special needs children...
I was an in home nanny for 2 autistic children for 3 years in Memphis, TN. I assisted the children with daily tasks including but not limited to, bathing, brushing teeth, getting dressed, meal times, getting them on the bus for school, following a schedule that I would make for them each day, playing outside, and going on special outings (bowling alley, shopping, etc.). I feel like that was one of the most rewarding positions I have ever held as an employee. I watched them grow and become more independent each day. I worked closely with their therapists and also met with different doctors alongside the parents. I also assisted the parents with cleaning, grocery shopping, running errands, etc.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment would have to be...
When I was working with an autistic child who was nonverbal when I first started working with him. I would read with him everyday after school and would encourage him to read with me as well. After about a month he read me a full Dr. Seuss book with the biggest smile on his face. I don't think I have been as proud of someone as I was in that moment. After that day he would read to me everyday. Eventually reading turned into him actually communicating with me on his own during the day. He amazed me with what he could accomplish everyday and I never pushed him past his capabilities. We established a very good friendship filled with trust and understanding. He is now an adult who has graduated highschool and is taking college courses at his own pace. His parents still stay in contact with me and I hope that is a friendship that lasts forever.
