For me, the most important part of being a nanny is the connection you build with the children. It’s not only about earning the parents’ trust, but also the children’s. Kids need to know they can rely on you, that you’ll protect them, and that you truly care about their well-being. When children feel safe and understood, that’s when they grow, learn, and thrive—and I strive to create that kind of supportive environment every day.
My experience with special needs children...
I have a strong background working with children who have special needs. Growing up, I helped care for my younger sister who has autism and cerebral palsy, which taught me patience, compassion, and hands-on skills. In addition, I was involved in Best Buddies, a club supporting children and teens with special needs, from 7th grade through my senior year of high school. Currently, I’m in college studying to become a teacher, with a minor in Special Education, which has deepened my understanding of individualized support and inclusive care.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny memories was during a summer position for a family at my church. Their daughter was homeschooled, and I promised her that if she worked hard all week and stayed on track with her lessons, we’d take Friday off to go swimming. She rose to the challenge and made amazing progress with her reading that week! It reminded me how powerful a little encouragement and motivation can be, and how important it is to celebrate children’s successes.
