I am a teaching assistant at Mary Johnson Children Center in Vermont when at college, primarily with the 3-4 year olds.
I was a live-in Au Pair in Sicily in 2018, and have years shorter term nanny experience and babysitting experience. On Nantucket I've been placed with families through Nannytucket, which requires interviews, references, and background checks for all nannies.
HomeBuddies is a program some peers and I have created and are now running, and plan to run through the fall. I am in charge of administrative jobs like emails and matching, and also spearhead our group activities that take place 3x a week. HomeBuddies matches college aged mentors with school aged children for 1:1 Zoom sessions, where pairs build intentional relationships amidst the pandemic. We aim to provide structure, socialization, and support for children and families in this unprecedented era. It is still a very new organization, but has been a truly fulfilling and rewarding way to spend this summer.

I love spending time outside, especially taking children on walks or to the beach when possible.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Listening! Listening to what a family's individual needs are, and how you can meet those needs while also staying true to your own childcare philosophies. With children especially, listening to how they are feeling, and what interest they have that might turn into a passion if you can foster it, and all those little comments and moments that are easy to miss. Making sure children feel heard and important while always maintaining who is in charge. That's how you really get to know a family and a child, and in my opinion it's one thing that makes a good nanny great.
