I have cared for many children who have; autism, oppositional defiance disorder, adhd, add, and sensory issues as well.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I remember working with a child who has autism, and setting behavioral goals and skills in mind. I worked with her for four days a week, three hour sessions, for two months. Finally after hours of working together, building trust, and working towards her goals she was able to engage in many growth spurts such as shaking a maraca and matching animal cards. It was a moment where patience and building trust prevailed.
