A little bit about me

Hello! I’m Kayla! I’m 28 and am putting myself back through college. Ever since I was 16 I’ve had jobs working with children. I started off in a daycare with age ranges from 6 months to 13 years. I later changed roles to a preschool teaching assistant. From there I went to the corporate world, but when I decided to finish my degree, I went back to my roots and started nannying. I had been with the same baby for about a year, I started when she was 3 months and left when she was 18 months. Currently I nanny for three kids-ages ranging from 18 months, 2.5 years, and 4 years old. I have experience meal prepping for babies as well as toddlers, I take the children to doctor appointments, cleaning the house, laundry and much more.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love bringing kids out doors and playing, there’s so many teachable moments in nature. I do enjoy arts and crafts. I love play pretending with kids their imaginations are truly remarkable!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is to build a connection with the child(children). Helping them feel safe and reassuring that they have additional support in their system is really important to me. As well as personally exhibiting behaviors that I would want them to emulate such as kindness, honesty, confidence, curiosity, patience and good communication skills. It is important to me that the kids feel safe and comfortable around me as well as they get to explore their surroundings and imagination through play activities. Finally it is important to nourish their development in all ways possible. I strive to do all these things with my nanny family.

My experience with special needs children...

When I worked in the daycare, I gained special needs experience with children who are on the spectrum as well as kids with adhd and kids with other various special needs or learning disabilities. I was at the daycare for about five years.

The most important part about being a nanny...

This is a hard one, I’ve accumulated so many amazing memories over the year that I have been with my baby (started when she was 3 months and she’s 15 months now) but if I had to trickle it down to one memory it would be this: so she has this little kitchen and I would sit on one side and she would sit on the other. We would go back and forth kind of like peekaboo but we did it to eachother at the same time. This is one of my favorite memories because of her laugh. She would crack up so hard that I couldn’t help but laugh with her.

Okay, I can’t just say one. Another one of my favorite memories is when she was much much younger, when I first started and she would fall asleep on me. As she got bigger and nap time would approach it was second nature for her to come crawl into my arms and rest her head before I brought her to her crib. M heart feels full from just typing about it.

Truly, there’s so many amazing moments with kids that again it’s hard to just pick a few.
