A little bit about me

Hi! I'm Kayla Scimeca, a student at Appalachian State University studying K-12 Instrumental Music Education. So far my experience with children predominantly includes tutoring and teacher assistant positions for 4-12. I have learned a lot about managing behavior and how to be engaging and creative for children. I have outmost respect and value for children, and I know that by giving respect and patience I am more likely to receive the same in return while building a stronger, more positive relationship. Other experiences include caring for younger cousins, children of family friends, and my younger brother. This care has included play, crafts, transportation, and basic meal prep.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked with children through tutoring for core subjects and music, as well as being a teacher's assistant to band directors and elementary music teachers. Outside of classroom settings, I have experience engaging with children through Girl Scout leadership and volunteer work through university organizations.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Whether it's swimming at a pool, having a picnic at a park, or walking a local trail I enjoy spending time outside with children. I'm also a big fan of board and card games which are great rainy day activities. It's also important to partake in a child's favorite activities; I love learning about their interests and it builds a stronger relationship.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Helping young children learn how to work together with their peers and authority figures to build positive relationships, problem solve, become more confident individuals, and (most importantly) have fun! Children deserve patience and respect so that they can learn to model positive behaviors; nannying is a great way to encourage these life skills outside of an academic or extracurricular setting and instead right at home where children feel most comfortable.

My experience with special needs children...

I tutored an 8th grade student with ADHD in core subjects during mu junior year of high school. During my senior year, I taught beginning piano to another student with ADHD and beginning clarinet ti a hard of hearing student with a learning disability.
