A little bit about me

I have a BS.Ed degree in Education & child development, but in 1996, I ended up in Publishing, Web publishing, & then IT.

I'm looking for something different, & perhaps a chance to actually use my Education degree, a bit.

I did work as a live-in nanny for 1 year while in college. This included a preschool girl, grade school boy, & a 15 year old girl.

I also have years of exp. in food preparation.

I'm looking for a change from the technical field & a short
commute.

I have a 2015 Toyota Prius with room for kids & sports equipment, etc. in back. I can transport kids to school & extracuricular events.

I'm not a house cleaner but I clean up after cooking & will help keep living areas neat. I do expect children to help tidy up with me, to learn to keep their posessions neat, in age-appropriate ways. I try to make it fun & quick.

Consider having me prepare dinners, to return to a home-cooked meal. I'm willing to do shopping.

I had CPR & 1st aid certs; I'm willing to update them.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I lived for one year as a living nanny for a woman working to finish her Nursing degree. Once she finished school and upgraded her job she didn't need a nanny anymore. But it was a fun experience overall. Most of my time was taking care of the youngest child and preparing their breakfast. The school age children took themselves to school in that situation. I also sometimes fixed lunches, when needed.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love games and going to the park and honestly love playing with blocks and other construction toys. I encourage reading and like to either read out loud or encourage kids to read some books out loud themselves if they are interested. I think it's a mistake to have kids sit in front of the TV or their phones too much but I do like well made animation or other kid directed movies and will happily make popcorn or other appropriate snacks and watch them with them, occasionally.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Helping a family arrange things so that everyone's needs are met and the parents as well as the kids feel supported and that life is safe and happy.

My experience with special needs children...

I've never been a caregiver for a special needs child but I have had a couple of friends who had either autistic or developmentally challenged kids and got along with them very well. I did have some child development classes in college which has given me some background and awareness of issues involved in teaching special needs children. However I have never actually been a teacher or official caregiver for a child with these challenges. I'm willing to give it a try if it's a situation where I can help appropriately.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think my favorite moment was helping a 6-year-old make cookies for the first time and enjoying the pride she felt in being able to say "I made those, myself!"
