More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Single mom of four since 2011 who had amazing and successful children. [phone number hidden] boys and two girls. Elementary school teacher with the majority of my experience kindergarten-2nd grade. I was a Guardian at Litem , and currently volunteer at Isaiah House in Clayton, NC which helps children who have been removed from their home and have temporary care needed. I have coached all level of cheer and have been a room/team mom for my own children.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I have raised four amazing children as a single mom since 2011 . As a mom and educator you can make everything a learning experience . Keeping a child active and engaged with little to no screen time is very important . walking, jogging stroller runs, biking, museums ( love marbles ) crafts, reading, baking, swimming, anything outside! I love animals and feel that can be an amazing connection for a child . My focus is always to keep children engaged but more importantly that they are loved and feel safe.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is that you know how incredibly much you love your own children and the children you are caring for are loved by their parents the same . I became a different person when I became a mom and finally realized how much my own mother loved me . I approach my interactions with children as if they were my own. I interact the way I hope someone would with my own children. It takes incredible trust for someone to allow you to be with their children, especially when they are very young . That parent would much rather be home caring for their own child but can’t for various reasons and that is the basis of where I approach it. When the kids are infants or toddlers, it is much harder on the parent to leave than the child . It is important to take pictures, videos throughout the day and communicate with the parent so they don’t “ miss” those special moments and the laughter . It reinforces that your children are having a wonderful and safe day.

My experience with special needs children...

I am an educator and have mainly worked in special education elementary school. I was led to that field from early childhood experiences. I spent a lot of time with my Nana and across the street was a boy with down syndrome. We spent a lot of time together and that ignited my passion for special education. Most of my experience has been with elementary learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD, high anxiety children. I have worked with numerous children with either a physical disability or mental/emotional disability. I provide a loving safe space for children to express themselves. As a mom of four, and a career in elementary education, I am patient and calm. I try to focus on the most important issues and not put focus on the little things . I believe there are ways to speak to a child that get your point across without saying “ don’t “ every few minutes. It is easy to change the “ don’t “ statements into a more positive delivery .

The most important part about being a nanny...

As a mom of four and an educator there are too many memories to count . Many filled with laughter and a child feeling success. As a mom with two children with dyslexia , the gift of reading or learning something that was difficult and watching that child the moment it clicks for them is amazing !!!! My favorite part of my parenting was that my kids wanted their friends at our home . Our home was the gathering spot and I created an environment where the kids wanted to be home and wanted their friends over . It is truly a gift to be witness to early friendships, and knowing exactly who your kids friends are . I loved that their friends would come to me for advice or just to talk through something .
