I've been working at the MLK Center for about 2 years and volunteered there before for 2 years working with the troubled youth. My special group was (4-6) years olds however I also looked after (7-16) years olds. I've been a nanny in between up the west coast!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
One of the best things that I love doing is creative activities, storying telling and nature! I'm a very big nature person I love hikes waterfalls, the whole nine yards.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think for me the most important thing is having a bond with the child that you are working with, whether it's an authority figure or seeing them as family, to me I want to be there I've been looking after kids for a very long time and I think not treating them as just a job has a very big impact
My experience with special needs children...
I haven't had much experience with special needs though the experience that I do have is through the MLK center we take in special needs kids and I find myself very good at de-escalation and understanding their strengths and focusing that energy into something they can really enjoy
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment with one of my kids was I brought my dog, a big lab mix, to the center and as the kids rushed around him he responded back with love and playfulness and even though he was big he knew that his strength might be too much and so they were bonding together very gentle it was a beautiful sight to see
