Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

volunteering as a kindergarten teacher for 1 school year

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

tummy time and surrounding awareness, reading activities and showing pictures and colors to babies. I engage in activities that help them find and match shapes and animals etc. I teach alphabet sound recognition that later held with reading. We go on outdoor walks and park adventures where I have conversations that spark curiosity and make them aware of their surroundings. I encourage their efforts in doing things so they may feel confident in themselves and use a gentle approach when they are wrong by communicating where they went wrong and the right thing to do.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is ensuring that my children are safe, they always feel heard and understood. Most of all I want them to be comfortable with making mistakes and knowing nobody is perfect, they could always try again and they're always loved and supported no matter what.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with an autistic non verbal child who didn't enjoy eating. Throughout our time together she has learned to be more confident in her speech, using her words and basic mannerisms, opened up to exploring and enjoying different nutritious meals and also developed a bedtime routine that works well for her parents.

The most important part about being a nanny...

one of my favorite nanny moments was when my baby girl I worked with for over a year, was being potty trained, I taught her about using the toilet, flushing, washing her hands and that using the restroom is something private. When strangers are around we close the door but always let an adult know she is going to use the restroom. I always reminded her of this and rolled play how she would ask someone for privacy is she didn't feel comfortable going if they herein the room. one day she went to potty, I went in with her and she stopped me and said "K may I have some privacy please?" I exited the bathroom she pushed up the door and I bursted out laughing, I was embarrassed for it coming from a 2 years old but proud was an understatment of how I felt in the moment knowing she has been learning and listening
