My experience with special needs children...
I’ve cared for my younger brother who is on the Autism Spectrum and non verbal. We play together, doing crafts, and swimming like any other child, and like any other child he has his moments. He is highly reactive in stressful situations, leading to incidents of self harm to regulate his emotions , I’ve learned to anticipate these moments and act accordingly to ensure that he is safe, and to work to calm him down when he becomes overstimulated.
