I had a kid who was very untrusting of us at the school as staff and it took a while for him to open up to us. I many times had to help him and correct him in making choices that were not healthy or safe for him and he would get upset with me all the time. But one day, on his birthday, he came to give me a cupcake. His Mother came over to me and told me that when they entered the store, he started running around looking for the cupcakes he wanted and he told her that he wanted to get Ms. Lala one as well ( that was the name the kids called me). I was so moved, thinking that he was still upset with me, and then realizing that he had learned to trust me and wanted to give me a cupcake on his birthday. That made my day and I cried happy tears when no one was looking.
