I enjoy doing arts and crafts and have a lot of ideas to share. I also like reading to and with them, especially folk tales, playing outside games, hiking, exploring, planting food or flowers with them, encouraging silliness.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I become attached to the children I work with and love being part of their lives. As I get to know them, I find great personalities in formation and encourage verbal and intellectual development through play. I am always concerned with their safety and set reasonable limits.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked directly with preschoolers, middle school students and high school students with special needs for several years. I have also been a social worker in a program with special needs classes, so I know how to write and follow IEP's. I try to meet each child where he/she is and and meet their needs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I worked with one seriously disturbed child who was pre verbal. I loved it the day she admitted that I was upset with her "because D threw sand in people's eyes." The first admission that her behavior had consequences. I also had a lot of nice warm moments with them over the years as I shared their small victories and pleasures.
