Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Infants: baby signs, providing sensory experiences, reading, tummy time, singing, cuddling, crawling, pulling up to standing, exploring outside, finger painting, walks and hikes with a stroller/carrier, etc.
Toddlers: Field trips- fire station, park, bike shop, pop jets, observing a construction site from afar, etc. Simple cooking, play-doh, painting, drawing, pre-maths activities, pre-literacy activities, reading, music, hiking, playing in "caves" formed by low tree branches, splashing in very shallow creeks, observing bugs, pretending, pretending, pretending!!!
Pre-school/Kindergarten: Field trips based on interests; butterfly pavilion, museums, bike shops, etc. Weaving, sewing, paper making, printmaking, jewelry making, story composition, writing skits, set designing, performing, finding fun locations to play outside, guided support with learning to climb rocks and trees(<head height). Obstacle courses, letter sounds, math concept games, board games, reading, bookmaking, etc.

Empathy and guidance, along with close relationships with parents, children, and any therapists and teachers on a child's team.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience teaching several children aged 2-5 with autism and sensory needs. I also have worked with children with muscular dystrophy, speech delays, and motor delays. In each case it has been important to have a strong relationship with parents and therapists in order to take an active role in supporting each child's goals.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I was a teacher, my class of 2-year-olds was riding the bus around town. We passed through the University of Colorado campus. By the stadium, a small paddock had been set up with a real buffalo inside! We quickly got off the bus, said hi to the buffalo from a safe distance, and met the cowgirls and cowboys who were taking care of her. It was such a special day.
