The most important part about being a nanny...
My childcare philosophy is rooted in creating a warm, supportive, and respectful environment where children feel safe, heard, and valued. I believe in being laid-back and approachable, allowing children to express themselves while still understanding boundaries. I place a strong emphasis on teaching good morals, honesty, and kindness from an early age. Encouraging open communication and mutual respect helps build trust, and I find that children respond well to consistency and fairness.
When it comes to discipline, I follow a “three-strike” approach, giving children clear chances to reflect and adjust their behavior before consequences are enforced. I don’t tolerate dishonesty and believe that lying, in particular, should be addressed thoughtfully but firmly. For consistent misbehavior, I use age-appropriate consequences such as limiting TV time or skipping a sweet treat after dinner.

The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my proudest memories as a childcare provider was during my time as a camp leader in Chicago. There was a young girl who had a tough time adjusting at the beginning of camp—she was shy, hesitant to participate, and often stood on the sidelines. I made it a point to check in with her every day, gently encouraging her to join in and reminding her that she had a safe space with me whenever she needed it. By the end of the summer, she had completely come out of her shell—laughing with the other kids, leading group activities, and even standing up to share during a talent show.
Seeing that transformation unfold and knowing that I had a part in helping her feel seen, accepted, and confident was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me of why I love working with children—being able to make a real difference, even in small ways, by simply showing up, listening, and believing in them.
