More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been babysitting and worked child care since I was a teenager. I have volunteered as the assistant Sunday school teacher at my church until my family moved. I also worked as a CIT at Camp Merri-Mac for Girls where I taught drama and art. As part of my cinema studies in college, I worked with a child on a film I wrote and directed. I volunteered for other events such as Slice of Americana. In graduate school, I majored in education, so a lot of my work involved working with students. I took an ELL course and helped to improved a student's literacy, I did some student teaching at Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville as part of my practicum courses, I also subbed at Tennessee School for the Blind. I also taught ASL to college freshmen. In recent years, I worked as a cottage parent at Tennessee School for the Blind, Sign Support for Williamson County Schools, and as an elementary teacher. I also have preview nanny experience.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing science projects and easy experiments. I love telling stories. I enjoy doing whatever the kids are interested in whether it is a dance party, Water day in the backyard, battling with spinning tops, throwing a football around. I also enjoy making up games and activities I think kids will enjoy like obstacle courses.
My experience with special needs children...
I recently worked as a sign support specialist for Williamson County Schools. The student I was assigned to had down syndrome. They were a joy to work with. Before working with Williamson County Schools, I worked as a cottage parent at Tennessee School for the Blind. During the school year, I was responsible for 13 girls between the ages of 19 to 22. Some of these girls had additional medical conditions not just visual impairments including Baten's Disease, Bipolar, Autism to name a few. Some were hands on while others were not.
I taught and tutored students with ADHD and other disabilities. Part of my student teaching experience was at Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville.

The most important part about being a nanny...
When I first moved to Nashville, I had the pleasure of taking care of two young boys for a short while before working at Tennessee School for the Blind. They were activity Kindergarten and lower elementary age. One day, I took some red yarn and set up a super spy obstacle course for them in the backyard. They loved it! They kept trying different routes and challenges to try to beat their time.
