More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I came from a small town and where I volunteered at the domestic violence shelter helping women and children get placed into better homes or moved across the country to be safe and that was very rewarding for me. I worked with mostly the children in the situation trying to help them better adjust. I also had lots of resources to help them get things like clothing furniture. Maybe even contacts if we had to move them to different towns. If they stayed in town, I helped them get moved into their new homes safely and then for several weeks we come back and check on the children or help the mothers take care of the children while they worked for the first few weeks, I helped the children with their school work if need be. If the mothers were struggling I just did all I could to help. It wasn't a paycheck. I wasn't on payroll or anything like that but I did it for quite a while.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to make new things with children or teach children. How to make things like reefs for holidays or One year I took a group of 5th graders and showed them how to make Indian chokers. I also like teaching children about planet Earth and how we can better take care of her showing them the importance of things like recycling and how to be better at it and how we can give back. I am an excellent tutor. I probably should have been a teacher. I am really good at helping children find better ways easier ways if you will to do things like math. I love showing them simple little tricks to learn things like their sevens for instance, teaching them easy ways to learn multiplication. For instance, I had a teacher growing up that taught me a lot of this stuff and it made a big impact on me so I tried to pass it forward. I am very patient and I don't mind doing hard work and I don't tire easily.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Keeping the children on their normal schedule. Not letting them bend the rules but being kind and realizing that I'm somebody that's just there to feel a little spot until Mom and Dad come home and sometimes that can be difficult. Children want their parents. They don't want this person that comes in when Mom and Dad leaves. It can make children very upset and I sympathize with that. I think it is just very important that anyone taking care of children have lots of patience and lots of love in their heart, but you're able to say no when need be. I think that this isn't a job that you have to be a rocket scientist to do. Common sense can go a long way you treat this child the way you would want your children to be treated. So that's what I do. I keep them safe and as happy as possible until Mom and Dad come home.
My experience with special needs children...
I spent a lot of time growing up with my paraplegic cousin and helped take care of her a lot. I also had two cousins with down syndrome that I helped with them a lot. I haven't personally nannied a child with special needs on my own but I would not have a problem with that at all.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I used to take care of these two little girls that had been adopted. Their parents struggled forever to have children and then they adopted these two roles and these two girls were the cutest little girls and I still stay in contact with them they'll always be a part of my life. I have loved watching them grow into the beautiful women that they are today, but my favorite time with them. It was summertime and it was evening time and one of the little girls had went out and put soap on her slip and slide and those girls laughed and slid for probably 2 hours until they plum wore themselves out. I'll always remember that evening and how much they just laughed and how good of a time that they had. That was one of my favorite memories with any of the children that I've taken care of.
