I think being outside is important for kids, so any activity that involves the outdoors. Hands on activities are great. I grew up in a home playing many card and board games. In my opinion electrics (tv, video games, etc.) can be good in moderation.
My experience with special needs children...
In middle school I was part of what we called the Links Program. Basically they would pair a student with a special needs student. I also have a cousin who is autistic and a sister who is visually impaired.
