My experience with special needs children...
When I was in the 6th grade they opened a special needs classroom at my grammar school. I signed up immediately as a daily classroom helper. I loved interacting with the children and spent recess with them daily. Later when I was 16 I took a job at a foster home with 4 handicap able young ones. Down syndrome, spina bifida, and a little boy who needed a tube passed up his nose for feedings.
